Limited Edition Commemorating the 220th Anniversary of Boku-Undo
Saiwaboku (Revived Sumi Ink) is a series of solid ink sticks recreated from vintage sumi inks made with rare soot and animal glue. Each piece is carefully revivied using Boku-Undo’s refined sumi-making techniques, cultivated over more than 220 years.
Seien Tenshaku (Premium Oil Soot Ink Stick)
Material: Pure rapeseed oil soot
Ink Color: An elegant black with subtle reddish tone
Deep Tone: A deep, glossy black
Sumi ink is a handcrafted product, and due to the nature of its materials, some pieces do not meet formal quality standards and are never released.
These pieces have been carefully preserved and, over time, have matured into high-quality vintage ink. They are now revived using refined techniques, preserving the unique tonal qualities of aged sumi ink.
Respecting the authenticity of the original vintage ink, each piece is crafted with minimal intervention to preserve its originality as much as possible.
As the animal glue has naturally decomposed over time, both its advantages, including the complexity of its color and nuanced tones, and its fragility coexist.
Please note that the edges of the ink sticks may be prone to chipping.
